A project called The ADHD Evidence Project is looking through the data and summarizing it. This link discusses the important role that the neurotransmitter Seratonin has in ADHD and the comorbid (occurring together but not one causing the other) disorders often found with it. Seratonin is involved in many functions in the body and perhaps most often understood as the key neurotransmitter in Anxiety and Depression. Many paeople who take SSRIs for related conditions notice a change in symptoms if they run out for a day or two--ADHD symptoms. It will be interesting to see how our understanding changes as we get new information about the newest drug under review by the FDA (with a possible date of July 24) which affects Seratonin, Norepinephrine, and Dopamine but is not a stimulant.
